The City of Tucson and Tucson Electric Power have formalized a voluntary Energy Collaboration Agreement intended to fund energy affordability and local infrastructure resilience. The agreement will take effect if Tucson voters approve a pending franchise agreement between the city and the utility company, appearing on the ballot as Proposition 421 in the November election. The measure follows more than a year of public engagement, including over ten town halls and informational sessions held throughout the community.
Separately, Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department announced upcoming public feedback sessions on proposed updates to municipal zoning regulations for shelter care facilities. Conducted alongside the University of Arizona's Drachman Institute, the three scheduled meetings run between September 13 and October 4, 2026. The department also adjusted the deadline for its 2026 Middle Housing Design Competition, extending the window for architects and planners to submit residential designs through September 20, 2026.
