Weld County Prepares Draft Comprehensive Plan for Unincorporated Growth
County planners prepare to release a draft long-range growth plan ahead of a comprehensive zoning update in 2027.
October 7, 2026 · The Grid news desk
The Weld County Board of Commissioners announced ongoing progress on a new Comprehensive Plan designed to guide land use, housing, transportation, and natural resource management across unincorporated areas over the next decade. County officials expect to release a public draft of the plan for resident review later this fall.
Planning Services Director David Eisenbraun and county commissioners noted the plan aims to balance regional growth with the preservation of agricultural areas and existing community standards. The Comprehensive Plan will also establish policy direction for an upcoming revision of the county zoning code, which is scheduled for 2027. The announcement coincided with the board recognizing October as National Community Planning Month during its Sept. 30 meeting.
