Rocky Mountain National Park has closed Old Fall River Road to motorized vehicles for the winter season as staff begin scheduled maintenance operations.
The 9.4-mile unpaved route is closed to all traffic through Friday, Oct. 9, while road crews conduct repairs. The corridor will temporarily reopen to pedestrians, bicycles, and leashed pets from Saturday, Oct. 10, through Monday, Oct. 12. Following that window, the road will close again to all access from Tuesday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 16, for additional maintenance work.
Beginning Saturday, Oct. 17, Old Fall River Road will reopen for non-motorized recreational use throughout the winter. Bicycles and leashed pets must remain on the roadway surface and are prohibited on adjacent trails.
Park officials also reminded travelers that autumn weather in high-elevation areas can create sudden hazards, including blowing snow, strong winds, and icy pavement. While Old Fall River Road is closed to cars, other primary corridors including Bear Lake Road and Trail Ridge Road remain open, though temporary weather-related restrictions may occur at any time.
