Utah-based Clyde Companies is marking the 100th anniversary of its founding, which originated as a road-building enterprise established by W.W. Clyde in Springville. The family-owned organization has since expanded to encompass eight subsidiary businesses spanning heavy civil construction, building materials, and related commercial services.
Founder W.W. Clyde, an engineer by training, began the business after working in coal mining operations and moving to road construction following the federal Highway Act. The enterprise incorporated related trades over subsequent decades, including establishing Utah Service in the 1930s to supply lumber from concrete forms and founding Geneva Rock Products in the 1950s for concrete supply, pipe, and asphalt paving.
Geneva Rock later became the state’s largest concrete supplier following its 1990 acquisition of Ideal Concrete Corp., before further regional expansions into southern Utah communities including St. George and Cedar City. In 1998, former CEO and current board chairman Wilford Clyde restructured the various holdings—which were generating approximately $150 million annually at the time—into a unified corporate structure under the Clyde Companies parent brand. The firm recently opened a new headquarters facility in Springville.
